MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
AND APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Chartered in
1968, the Foothills Craft Guild began in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with
25 artisans. The Guild has grown into a regional organization of
over 250 juried craft artists, all of whom reside in Tennessee.
Guild membership also includes associate (non-juried) individuals
who provide support of Guild objectives and participate in Guild
activities. The Guild provides educational opportunities for members
and the general public through craft scholarships, exhibit opportunities,
area demonstrations, and teaching workshops. In addition to the
annual "Fine Crafts Marketplace" held each November in Knoxville,
Tennessee, the Guild produces a Spring Show each April in cooperation
with the Knoxville Dogwood Arts Festival. All active Guild members
are encouraged to participate with a sales booth, as a craft demonstrator,
as workshop instructor, or as a behind-the-scenes worker.
Juried Membership: Individual memberships are open
to all craft artists who are residents of Tennessee, whose work
is approved through jurying, who pay the applicable dues, and
who agree to abide by the provisions of the By-Laws. Center
membership consists of a group of two or more craftspeople
producing a cohesive body of work. The work must be produced entirely
by the center members and the work must be accepted through the
jurying process by the Standards Committee in the same manner
as applicable to individual members. The center members must be
located in the state of Tennessee; must subscribe to the purposes
and policies of the Guild; must pay applicable dues; and must
meet the criteria as specified for individual members. Centers
must designate the name of the owner and the name of the person
responsible for quality control. For purposes of show booth fees,
centers shall be considered as individual members.
Dues: Annual dues are $35 for individual members
and $75 for center memberships. Those interested in becoming juried
members must follow the juried membership
application instructions.
Non-juried membership: Guild membership is not limited
to active or producing craft artists. Associate memberships
are open to all persons interested in supporting Guild objectives
and events. Associate members are welcomed and their volunteer
participation is an integral part of the Guild. Associate members
receive the Guild newsletter, free admission to Guild shows, and
are encouraged to participate in membership meetings and other
activities.
Dues: Annual dues are $25 for Associate members.
Those interested in becoming an Associate member do not need to
fill out an application. Send a check for $20 with name and address
to Foothills Craft Guild, PO Box 5087, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
Expectations of members: Members are expected to participate
in Guild activities by exhibiting or demonstrating at Guild shows,
serving on committees or on the Board of Directors, or participating
in other activities sponsored by the Guild.
Jurying: Crafts are judged by a Standards Committee panel
of nine members. The panel awards points based on workmanship,
use of materials, design concepts, overall appearance, and originality
OR faithful execution of traditional designs. The Board of Directors
must ratify each applicant accepted by the Standards Committee
before acceptance is complete.
